An enquiry about Avenue Lincoln area of Montreal?

Hi guys, am going to live in Montreal to learn French as well as a break for myself from October this year, am trying to sort out my accommodation, I would like to know if the Avenue Lincoln area is decent for living? how is the security and environment there ? I've heard it is quite downtown, I would like to know more about it, if any one can provide a bit of more information about it would be appreciate, thanks a lot.
