What's the most messed up/disturbing anime you've ever seen?

I've noticed anime producers seem to get away with putting pretty controversial themes in shows, perhaps because people are less offended by cartoons. Whether you think this is true or not I don't really care, I don't want this to be a debate, however I am looking for some messed up/disturbing anime with controversial themes. Thanks in advance
